NAOMI OLINDO

1. Who is your fashion inspiration?

My fashion inspiration really comes from many different people. Sometimes if I find a blogger I like I will look for similar pieces to make something my own. My mood changes so much. One week I will obsess over one Instagram page, and the next I will have moved on to searching for sandals I saw someone wearing walking down the street. One person that has pretty consistently is Anna Dello Russo. She always surprises people and her style is so versatile. I love that. She looks as awesome in a bomber jacket as she does in a short, bright dress.

2. Who motivates you to follow your goals daily?

This is an easy question. My parents definitely motivate me to maximize my life. My dad came from nothing and it pushed him to work hard and appreciate everything he has worked so hard to earn. Although I grew up in different circumstances watching him and my mom take care of every single thing they have has helped me realize the value of hard work. I want to be able to look around one day and know I earned everything I have. That’s what motivates me. My mom and dad taught me I would never be satisfied with my life unless I reached my goals alone. I remind myself of that each day.

3. What are your favorite fitness tips you've applied this year?

This is probably a cliche, but the hardest part for me of working out is actually getting my gym clothes on and getting in the car. Once I’m at the gym everything kind of flows but the deep dark thoughts I have before even getting dressed are tough to shake! The best advice someone gave me was just take it one step at a time and just get there. Once you are there it’s not so bad. Right?

4. What's your favorite accessory for the summer?

FOR SURE my new straw boater hat. I’m so excited to wear it while I travel this summer. I think they’re so chic and practical. The one I ordered can kind of fold down so you can pack it in a suitcase. Also, it was under $40.

5. Where do you hope to see yourself in 5 years?

I’m about to start my master’s in finance in August. It’s a one year program with amazing percentages of graduates that find their dream jobs after finishing. I’m hoping I will survive the program and find a job- so in 5 years I would hopefully be 4 years into an investment firm or even possibly trading. I want to still be traveling in 5 years and enjoying my life as much as I am now. Honestly, if you had asked me 5 years ago if I would have seen myself here I would have laughed in your face! I’ve learned to take opportunities as they come…that’s what makes life so exciting!

6. What's the coolest opportunity you've received through your social media popularity?

My social media “popularity” is really pretty new and pretty weird. I don’t really know what to do with it to be honest. I like sharing parts of my life with my friends and other people. But the cool part of it is that so many great people reach out to you for different platforms. Animal welfare is probably the most important platform to my life. The Charleston Animal Society noticed my passion and reached out to me and some other folks on Southern Charm to be on the cover of their publication, Palmetto Paws, to promote No Kill shelters. So many animals are bred in mills to be bought and sold like commodities, and as soon as they cause a loss of income they are euthanized. The Charleston Animal Society doesn’t kill any animal that could have a chance so I am a huge supporter. For them to reach out to me for help was a huge honor.

7. If you could set any treed for the Fall, what would it be and why?

Could I un-set a trend? I see so many people in the South wearing real fur vests in the fall over long sleeves and jeans. It breaks my heart. We don’t live in an area where temperatures are so low fur is needed and where we don’t have access to other alternatives. It’s not pretty and it’s not cool! I wear faux if I have to but I rarely find the need to even do that.

8. Who inspires you to stay healthy everyday?

I think anyone that somewhat respects their body inspires themselves to stay healthy. I wouldn’t want to be healthy for anyone but myself. It’s definitely a work in progress for me!

9. What's your dream career?

My dream career would be some type of stock broker/trader. You can work from anywhere and have enough time to spend with your family and friends if you want. Also, your income is not limited.

10. What are your top two favorite hobbies?

Lately I have taken up gardening and it is SO much fun. We have several raised beds and are growing tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, green beans, eggplant, squash, lettuce, carrots, onions…the list goes on. It’s so gratifying and relaxing. My favorite part of the day is pouring a glass of wine and water my plants around 6 pm. I also have always loved to paint. I’m not very good but I really enjoy it. My number one fans are my parents if that tells you anything! :)

11. If you could wake up in the body of any celebrity or historical figure, who would it be and why?

Jane Goodall! She has done so much good in this world for the environment and for animals. She is a huge advocate against certain lobbyists pertaining to pollution, pushing people to be more self-sustaining, and obviously for animal welfare. I love reading her articles and watching her interviews. I think the world could learn so much from her. When I was little I wanted to be an anthropologist. I think that’s where the obsession started. She’s really and inspiration to me.
